For the shoe person, you might be wondering how you are going to get your shoe collection to get through your next move without damaging them. When deciding how to get your shoes packed securely and safely, there are a few tactical ways that are optimal, especially to ensure their safe delivery to the new home. We at Good Time Moving & Storage would like to share some tips on how you should get your shoes prepared for your upcoming move.
How Do You Pack Shoes without Destroying Them?
No matter how big or small, your shoe collection should be protected. There are a few packing tips to keep the high heels, sneakers, boots, slippers and other footwear in tip-top shape. Do not throw all your shoes in a big box and call it done. There is a better way to keep your shoe collection safer. To provide maximum protection every shoe should be wrapped individually in packing paper and put back in their original shoeboxes if you have them. If you do not have the original boxes, and more realistically, find small boxes to pack them in individually. Collect your shoes before packing them, clean them well, and polish them up. Place them in carry size boxes after they are wrapped neatly. In the event you do not have packing paper, soft materials like pajamas, T-shirts or towels can work well to pack them up. To help them keep their shape, stuff folded socks inside of the shoes. With the toes pointed toward the heels, pack your shoes in the boxes in an interlocking shape. To remove bad foot odors and keep your shoes smelling fresh, place tea bags in your shoes, an anti-bacterial spray or a mixture of rubbing alcohol and water. Be sure to do this night before moving day and let your shoes dry well. Make sure around those high heels wrap bubble wrap to help prevent the heels from snapping off during the move. Never use the plastic bags, though it may seem like a good idea, putting your shoes in a plastic bad is not good. Bags tear easily; they fail to keep your shoes from getting soiled, scratched, or badly damaged. In a bag, the footwear could easily get crushed under heavier items during the move. The solid structure of a box that prevents damage significantly lacks in a plastic bag. Not only so, but plastic bags trap moisture which can severely damage shoes and lead to mold. Plastic bags mixing with extreme hot temperatures can potentially melt and permanently ruin the surfaces of your footwear. Once the shoes are properly prepared, the smaller boxed shoes can be neatly organized in medium sized boxes for easier transport. Avoid stacking heavy boxes on top of them. Do not forget to label the medium sized boxes and if possible organize the formal shoes together, the sneakers, the boots, and other such shoes together.
